Famous for watersports, the lovely village of Gera Lario is a municipality in the Province of Como, which is located in the Italian region of Lombardy. It lies on the northern side of the lake and is famous for water sports, especially windsurfing and kite surfing and is ideally suited for this with near constant winds. This attracts water sport enthusiasts and professionals who go to the 'Tabo Surf Center'.
This picturesque village has quaint houses, narrow streets and a lovely atmosphere. Gero Lario was once a small fishing village, but its economy is now based on craftwork and the increasing tourist industry. The village has a beach cafe, a cafe bar, a grocery shop and also a bakery For those that want to sail, canoe or kayak, there are infinite possibilities to cross the lake and go up to the rivers; Adda & Mera, eventually arriving at Lake Mezzola. Gera Lario is also a popular starting point for hiking & trekking enthusiasts. The hills and mountains above Gera Lario rise up to around 2000 metres between S. Bartolomeo over Gera Lario and Sorico until they reach Menaggio and is an extremely popular walk for experienced hikers. The Romanesque Church of San Vincenzo is situated on a site where Roman remains were once found. The Church has many interesting and historic features, especially its architecture and some wooden sculptures. More recently, in 1977, the Telespazio Space Station was constructed in Pian di Spagna and brings the village right up to date, linking both science and technology. | |
